So here is a picture of my final product for today. I also have a ton of process photos I posted below, but haven’t captioned yet. I had to learn how to use all of the tools in the garage with Mom and will caption tomorrow. Going out now!
Today was really special fo rme. Ever since Dad passed away this winter, we have been cleaning out our garage (he has hundreds of tools) but not really using any of them. Now it felt like paradise to have an organized garage with literally ANY tool I needed. Mom was very excited to hang out with me today and watch me do the project. She even taught me how to use the jig-saw, circle sander, and belt sander to help with my project! I taught her how to use the Dremel. Good exchange for all.
Such a fun day!
So quickly, the idea behind this is that I literally wanted to create a “bass” bass. You’ll see. 🙂
Enjoy!
First thing is making the butt cheeks (hardest thing to figure out). Luckily we had these extra post caps from our deck which Mom just rebuilt.
Sawing this thing was nuts! (didn’t find the jig saw until later…)
Finally cut it out!
Now I have to cut it in half…
Trying out the circle sander to smooth the cut.
Then we found this other badass sander. This was the strongest of the 3 we found. A disc sander?
Now trying out another sander. I think its a belt sander? Mom wasn’t sure either.
Mom demo’s how to use the jig saw.
Then I accidentally cut the corner off the table when cutting out the shape of the bass… Oops! (it wasn’t a nice table…)
The base is cut out and ready for sanding!
Sanding down the bass with the belt sander. Seems this one is the gentlest of the sanders…
Spray painting the bass! Love all the things we have in this garage!
Added a painters stick for the top neck and a piece of scrap wood for the bottom part.
I really wanted to make sure I did the neck/bottom right. On a real bass, the strings are tight across this gap so you can play.
